Notes for Thomas Gawn and Mary Bartlett:

The 1860 Census shows Thomas Gawn living with the Robert Shaw family in the town of Oquawka, Henderson

Co., Illinois. They were farmers.

 

Thomas Gawn enlisted Private, Company G, 84th Illinois Infantry on 28 Jul 1862 at Biggsville, Henderson Co.,

Illinois. He was 28 years old, native of Kilbride, Antrim, 5' 9-1/2 ", brown hair, blue eyes, light complexion,

single, farmer, and enlisted for 3 years. He was mustered out 8 Jun 1865.

 

The 1870 Census shows Thomas Gawn, wife Mary and son John living in T9 R4 [Walnut Grove] Township,

Henderson Co., Illinois.. He was a farm labourer.

 

In October 1879 three of the four children of Thomas and Mary Gawn died of diphtheria in Kearney Co.,

Nebraska.

 

The 1880 Census shows Thomas Gawn, wife Mary, and son Thomas living in Mirage Twp., Kearney Co.,

Nebraska. He was a farmer.

 

MARY BARTLEY:

Land Ownership Map Kearney County, Nebraska, 1895, shows Mary Gawn 160 acres, SE Quarter, Section 5,

Mirage Township. Her son Thomas B. Gawn owned SW Quarter Section 4, 160 acres adjacent to the east.

These properties are two miles north of the town Axtell, Nebraska.

 

The 1900 Census shows Mary Gawn and son Thomas B. Gawn living in Mirage Twp., Kearney Co., Nebraska. It

says she came to the United States in 1866 and Thomas was a farmer.
