IRISH HORSES
SUCCEED IN AMERICA
OWNER WHO WON TWENTY-TWO CHAMPIONSHIP RIBBONS
Mr. John Warwick, the Belfast sportsman, who brought five of
Ireland's leading jumping- horses to America, has returned
home with twenty-two championship ribbons, including those
for some of the principal American awards.
Mr. Warwick's horses competed in New York, Boston, and
Toronto, and put up a remarkable performance. The Celebrated
Westchester Cup, America's premier trophy is his for a year.
Only on one previous occasion has it been won by other than
military competitors, and last year was held by the Italian
Army team.
Mr. Warwick did not however, bring home with him the five
horses. These he sold to a Canadian. Mr. Warwick, in the
course of a conversation which I had with him to-day, said
he would not like to divulge the price that he obtained for
the horses, as the Canadian might not like it to be known.
“I am quite satisfied with the price” he added with a smile.
Proceeding, he said that the American’s were the greatest
sportsmen one could wish to meet, they gave him a great
reception, and in all the contests he got a fair crack of
the whip.
