Mr Connell Gawn of Crosshill, Hawea died at his home on Thursday.

Mr Gawn came from North Otago in 1926 and farmed with his father at the Fork farm, Maungawera, moving to Crosshill property in 1932. He was noted for his Romney stud and for his half-bred flock.

Mr Gawn was a member of the Otago Central Electric Power Board and of the Forks Rabbit Board and was past president of the Upper Balclutha Agricultural and Pastoral Society of which he was a foundation member.

He was a past president of the Wanaka Golf Club and of the Wanaka Rugby Football Club and was past master of the Masonic Lodge.

He represented North Otago and Vincent at rugby. Mr Gawn worked enthusiastically for the Young Farmers Club and his daughter Diana founded the Hawea Pony Club.

He is survived by his wife (formerly Miss Wilhelmina Kane) of Grand View, his daughter Diana (Mrs Peter Gordon, Wanaka) and Patricia and his son William.

Obituary.    Mrs Wilma Gawn.

Mrs Wilma Gawn (76) a committee member of the Wanaka Arts Society and a member of the Plunket Society has died in Wanaka. Mrs Gawn was born in Cromwell, the twin daughter of the late William Kane of Manila.

She married Connell Gawn of Crosshill, Maungawera where she lived until her husband’s death, when she returned to Wanaka.

Mrs Gawn gave many years of dedicated work to the Plunket Society and received the long service badge, the highest award offered by the Society. She assembled the history of the upper Clutha sub-branch of the Society and took responsibility for keeping the information up to date.

The Wanaka Arts Society could always count on her full co-operation at its exhibitions. She was a keen watercolour painter and had an aptitude for helping enthusiastic beginners. Mrs Gawn is survived by her three children.
