Nancy Gawn was
reputed to be a very good looking girl with red hair
when she was young. She had two admirers, James
Ramsey and
Tom
McConnell, both prosperous farmers who lived
locally. Tom McConnell won the day and Nancy married
him on November 26, 1826 in 1st Donegore Presbyterian Church, Parkgate, Co. Antrim
just before her twentieth birthday. It is told that
James Ramsey was unconcerned and stated that he was
in no hurry to marry and if Nancy had a good looking
red headed daughter like herself he was prepared to
wait. That indeed was the case and he married the
eldest daughter
Sarah Agnes McConnell
who was born November 1, 1827. James Ramsey was five
years older than her father Tom McConnell.
