Martha Catherine Williamina Allen
marries Walter Thompson June 4 1919
Wedding- A wedding of great interest to
old residents of the North Taieri took place on a beautiful
sunny day on June 4 in the Presbyterian Church which was
prettily decorated by girl friends of the bride. The Rev.
Limburn solemnised the marriage. Mrs Fowler (cousin of the
bride) played the “Wedding March” as the company left the
church. Mr Walter Thompson, second son of Mr and Mrs T
Thompson ( Waikaia) was married to Miss M. C. W. Allen,
youngest daughter of Mr and Mrs Allen formally of Waikaia
but now of Janefield, Mosgiel. The bride looked charming in
a white silk dress, veil, and orange blossoms. Miss L.
Stewart (Christchurch), niece of the bride, was bridesmaid
who wore a pretty blue dress. The wedding party motored to
the church and back to Janefield, where food was partaken
of. The Rev Limburn presided and the usual toasts were
honoured. Mr and Mrs Walter Thompson received many handsome
and valuable presents including cheques. The brides
travelling dress was a grey costume, and hat to match. The
happy couple left by motor car to Dunedin to catch the train
for the north, where the honey moon will be spent, and then
return to Waikaia where they will reside.
