DIVORCE.

Hawke's Bay Herald, Volume XXXIV, Issue 11390, 23 November 1899, Page 3

Dunedin, Wednesday. Mr Justice Williams to-day granted a rule nisi in the divorce case of Margaret Gawn v. James Murdoch Gawn, on his wife's petition for desertion.

Otago Witness 30th November, 1899

MARGARET GAWN (PETITIONER) V. JAMES MURDOCH GAWN (RESPONDENT).

Petition for dissolution of marriage on the ground of desertion. Mr J. M Gallaway appeared for the petitioner, and the respondent did not appear. The petitioner, Margaret Gawn, gave evidence of her marriage in May, 1887, of several separations, and of the fact that in 1888 her husband had turned her out of the house, and that she had never seen him since.

Jane Gillan deposed that the husband had told her at the time that he had turned his wife out of the house, and that he would " do for her" if she came in his path again. His Honor granted a decree nisi with leave to move for the rule absolute after three mouths. Mr Gallaway said this was a case in which it would be of no use asking for costs.
